Timothy "Seph" Allen - Director of Strategic Communications

Seph’s specialty is helping organizations tell their “stories of innovation” to the world. A multiple Emmy award-winner and member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), his 20+ year career in communications includes projects for dozens of Fortune 500 clients as well as every major broadcast television network.

The majority of Seph’s career has been with NASA. He was the contractor lead for the video production team in the Public Affairs Office at Johnson Space Center during the early years of International Space Station missions and was a lead video producer for space shuttle program scripted television products including the first Educator Astronaut mission (STS-118) and the orbiter Columbia’s final mission (STS-107). Later, he served on the “Creativity & Innovation” team within the Strategic Relationships Office at Langley Research Center, playing key roles and serving as a spokesperson and technical director for initiatives such as the agency’s first TEDxNASA events.

Seph’s accomplishments at NASA include creating and managing some of the agency’s most successful media campaigns including television, radio, podcasts, social media, and events. He has a talent for translating "government-speak" into concepts people can understand and support. Through a cooperative agreement between the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) and NASA, Seph currently serves as a senior strategic communications co-lead and as the coordinator for graduate and undergraduate university student science communication interns for NASA’s Earth Applied Sciences Disasters Program.

In between his time at NASA and founding Quindar Media, Seph served as the director of Communications & Public Involvement for the City of Fort Collins, Colorado. Fort Collins was recognized as “America’s Most Satisfied City” by Time magazine and featured to represent the "2010s" in the Smithsonian's "Places of Innovation" exhibit during his tenure. In this role, he led the city’s in-house creative staff responsible for the city’s public relations, creative direction, marketing strategy, and materials, media relations, websites, social media, television and multimedia production and broadcast, and print and electronic graphic design.

Seph enjoys spending time with his wife, three adult children, and his first grandchild, but sometimes has an “it’s complicated” relationship with the latest AP Stylebook. He’s also an accomplished studio musician and enjoys filling his spare time playing and teaching drums in and around Nashville, Tennessee. He believes it’s important to always pursue at least one hobby where no one would confuse you for an expert. For him right now, that’s playing the bass guitar.
